Delegate Joe Vogel Endorses Congresswoman April McClain Delaney

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Today, Delegate Joe Vogel officially endorsed Congresswoman April McClain Delaney for re-election to represent Maryland’s 6th Congressional District. The endorsement is especially notable as they previously faced off in the 2024 MD-06 congressional primary, and adds to a growing list of local and state leaders backing Delaney’s campaign ahead of the primary.

“Today, I’m endorsing Congresswoman April McClain Delaney for re-election because Marylanders need us to stand united right now as we withstand an assault from this President and administration,” said Delegate Joe Vogel. “I’m proud of the partnership and friendship I’ve built with the Congresswoman, and I look forward to continuing to work with her for the people of Maryland’s 6th Congressional District. Together, we will continue fighting to protect immigrant Marylanders, keep ICE detention facilities out of Maryland, hold leaders accountable for their corruption and self-enrichment, protect workers, defend our civil and human rights, and make life more affordable for every Maryland family. It’s no secret I’ve had my disagreements with Congresswoman McClain Delaney over the years, and I’ve never hesitated to be honest about them. But what I have never questioned is her civility, her sense of decency, and respect for others. It’s clear to me that she’s running for the right reasons: because she genuinely cares about the next generation of Marylanders. Issues matter, and I’ll continue to be honest when we disagree. But character and leadership matters too. That’s why I hope you’ll join me in voting for April McClain Delaney by June 23rd.”

In announcing the endorsement, Congresswoman McClain Delaney thanked Delegate Vogel and highlighted his legislative work in Annapolis on behalf of Western and Central Maryland families.

“I am incredibly honored to have Delegate Vogel’s support as we work to deliver real results for the Sixth District,” said Congresswoman April McClain Delaney. “Joe is a dedicated public servant who has shown real leadership on the tough issues facing our state. In Annapolis, he has been a strong advocate for expanding mental health resources in our public schools, combatting hate crimes, and taking on the fentanyl crisis. It takes teamwork across all levels of government to stand up for our communities, and I look forward to partnering with him to make Maryland more affordable and just for everyone.”

Delegate Vogel joins Congresswoman McClain Delaney’s broad coalition of endorsers, including Governor Moore, Attorney General Brown, Lt. Governor Miller, Senators Van Hollen and Alsobrooks, Congressman Jamie Raskin, and the entire Maryland Democratic congressional delegation, as well as local leaders and unions across the district.

This impressive list of supporters is a reflection of her tireless efforts to focus on the issues that matter most to families in Maryland’s Sixth District:

  • Holding the Trump Administration Accountable: Leading the fight against dangerous executive overreach and opposing illegal military actions.

  • Stopping the ICE Warehouse near Hagerstown: Standing with local communities to successfully block a proposed detention facility in the district.

  • Lowering Costs: Advancing her bold affordability agenda to address the rising costs of housing, healthcare, and everyday essentials, while demanding that billionaires pay their fair share.
