New Poll: David Trone Can’t Buy A Lead
GAITHERSBURG, MD – A new poll conducted by Hart Research Associates confirms that in Maryland’s 6th District, money can buy a lot of things, but it still can’t buy David Trone a lead. Congresswoman April McClain Delaney continues to hold a commanding double-digit lead, beating Trone 49% to 38%, despite Trone’s staggering $6.7 million splurge, which was revealed in his latest campaign finance filings.
This new poll should not be confused with a separate Hart Research poll conducted four weeks ago, which showed a similar lead, despite David Trone spending more than a million dollars on advertising in the intervening period.
“David Trone should have learned in 2016, or in 2024, that voters are not for sale,” said McClain Delaney Campaign Manager, Nick London. “While David Trone lights money on fire, Congresswoman McClain Delaney is focused on delivering results for Western Maryland and standing up to Donald Trump and his MAGA Agenda.”
Since Trone entered the race, McClain Delaney has maintained her lead while spending roughly 1/4th of Trone’s fiscal firepit. Nonetheless, Delaney is the clear favorite of all voters, including in every part of the district, and she also leads by double digits amongst voters who view both candidates favorably, as well as men and women voters.
To put David Trone’s quixotic spending spree into perspective, it’s important to know that no candidate besides David Trone has ever spent $6.7 million in a Maryland congressional primary, let alone to have already wasted that much money 12 weeks before election day.
“Trone could have spent that money on a lot of noble endeavors, including helping stand up to Donald Trump by funding battleground races that will decide that balance of power in the next congress,” said Nick London. “Instead, he’s fueling a narcissistic vanity campaign that is clearly going nowhere.”
